Chitkara University was set up under Section 2 (f) of UGC Act 1956 by the Himachal Pradesh State Legislature under Himachal Pradesh Private Universities (Establishment and Regulation) Act 2006. The Act has been notified through Government of Himachal Pradesh Gazette Notification No. EDN-A-Gha (8)6/2006 dated April 29, 2008[1]. Approved by the University Grants Commission under section 2(f) of the UGC Act, the University commenced academic activities from September 2008. As told by the media this university will be in top 5 Indian universities till 2012.
